    Measurements are for the garment laid flat, not the body. A chest width, measured 1 inch (2.5 cm) below the armhole. double it for the circumference. B shoulder to hem. C shoulder seam to sleeve opening. Supplier measurements; each piece may vary by up to 2″ (5 cm).

    100% ring-spun cotton. Fabric weight: 6.1 oz/yd² (207 g/m²). Garment-dyed for a soft, washed-in feel, with a double-needle collar and hems and twill tape at the neck and shoulders.

    Garment dyeing creates subtle variations in shade between batches. Your garment may look slightly different from the images.

    Wash inside out in cold water. Tumble dry low or hang to dry. Do not bleach or iron the print. Follow the garment care label.

    The print

    An engraving of the object with its name in brush lettering, short handwritten notes around it and a numbered stamp for your initials. Printed in charcoal and rust brown as a halftone that lets the shirt show through, so the print stays soft.

    The print is about 8½ × 12″ (22 × 30 cm), centered on the chest, and on the back if you choose it, at the same price. Colors and placement may vary slightly from the preview.

    We ship to the United States, Germany, Australia and New Zealand. Shipping is $6, free from $95, and the delivery estimate is shown before payment. Price includes VAT. No additional taxes or duties within the EU. Import duties and taxes, if any, are payable by you on delivery.

    The story

    A number on the roof. A light that says available.

    The number on a New York yellow cab’s roof identifies its medallion, the license that allows it to pick up passengers hailed from the street. When the number is illuminated, the cab is available. When it is dark, the cab is occupied or the driver is off duty.

    The city approved this simpler signal in 2012 and cabs switched to it in 2013, replacing a separate off-duty sign. The light is linked to the taximeter, so anyone on the sidewalk can read the number and tell whether the cab is free.
